The "Bärenquell" project emerged from a 3D modelling course I had the privilege to teach, with a strong focus on modular environment design. I chose historic buildings in Berlin-Schöneweide as the course's central theme, particularly those built between 1880 and 1920. Schöneweide is not only home to the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft but also holds a rich industrial past with its old factories and warehouses. I selected the Bärenquell brewery as a primary example to guide the course.
Students selected their own historic structures to work on, learning to incorporate their original designs alongside own reference images and historical photographs. We used Blender for model creation and Unity to transform these models into interactive environments. It was truly inspiring to guide the students and witness the variety and creativity in their projects.
I was pleased with the outcome of my own project and felt proud to have provided the students with a solid foundation for their 3D journey. Seeing their projects come to life was incredibly rewarding, making this one of my favorite courses to teach. It also deepened my understanding of modular environment creation.
